Girls Lose Tough District Battle at Kettle Run

The girls turned in an outstanding effort against district rival Kettle Run, but ended up losing 2-0 at the Cougars home stadium. Both teams played hard from the opening whistle, with both teams creating some first half scoring chances, but a very competitive first ended 0-0.
The game remained 0-0 until 15 minutes into the second half when a Kettle Run player sent a ball into the 6 yard box from the right side. The ball got past goalkeeper Caroline Leibel and took an unfortunate deflection off of a Falcons defender for an own goal, giving the Cougars a 1-0 lead. The girls began to press the attack after the goal in an effort to get an equalizer and missed on several opportunities in the ensuing 15 minutes. Unfortunately the girls misfortune was compounded with 10 minutes remaining when a Cougar corner kick again deflected off a Falcon defender for the second own goal of the game. The Cougars refused to concede a goal in the games final minutes, winning the game 2-0 and remaining undefeated in district play.
